How Two@aTime Works

Empowering Youth to Thrive, Connect, and Succeed—One Conversation at a Time

Elementary aged toolkit for communication skills

Two@aTime Project Teen Edition - Currently Available

The Two@aTime Project empowers youth to step away from their screens and engage in meaningful, face-to-face conversations with peers, family members, teachers, and their broader communities.

Our three-pronged approach begins by creating a non-judgmental space where students can reflect honestly on their screen use. They're encouraged to share their experiences, challenges, and insights. From there, we respectfully introduce age-appropriate insights and research that highlights how excessive screen time, video games, streaming, and social media are impacting their brains, relationships, and overall well-being.

This blend of personal reflection and trusted information empowers students to set their own goals and take ownership of their growth. By encouraging autonomous goal-setting, the Two@aTime Project helps youth take meaningful steps toward healthier digital habits—and introduces the concept of a Digital Pause for Real Talk.

This bold initiative is designed to promote balance in a screen-saturated world, offering students the tools they need to step back, reconnect, and build the face-to-face communication and connection they genuinely need to thrive.

The second prong of our approach is the Two@aTime Toolkit—a set of practical communication skills that youth can explore and practice in a fun, low-pressure environment. Research shows that many young people today experience stress—even a fight-or-flight response—when asked to engage in face-to-face communication. The Two@aTime Project meets them with understanding and encouragement, using a Coach approach that emphasizes autonomy, experimentation, and growth over perfection.

Through social modeling and interactive activities, students are introduced to core skills like active listening, asking open-ended questions, expressing appreciation, showing empathy, and finding common ground. We recognize that we can't simply tell young people to "put down their screens and talk more"—we have to equip them. Two@aTime gives students the tools, structured practice, and positive experiences they need to build self-efficacy and develop real confidence in their ability to connect and interact with others.
